“ALB: Rock the Stacks” is a 14-song LP with a digital download code, featuring heroes of the DC music scene and benefitting the DC Public Library Foundation.
Many of the performers began making music in the city’s punk scene, but the bill also includes such electro-oriented acts as Rob Myers of Thievery Corporation, Furniteur and the Fort Knox Five, as well as funk duo Sitali + Juju, Warm Sun, Benjy Feree, Vandaveer, Deathfix, Kid Congo Powers, Shortstack, Elmapi, and Three.
The record also features an amazing super group formed for just for this project, performing ROCK THE STACKS. ALB Allstars includes Jerry Busher, Ben Gilligan, Far EXP vocalists Artemis “Ardamus” Thompson and Renell “RNL” McEwan, Ex Hex bassist Betsy Wright, Evens percussionist Amy Farina and three members of Funk Ark: trumpeter Joe Herrera, saxophonist Matt Rippetoe and keyboardist Will Rast.
The ALB: Rock the Stacks project is a tribute to an awe-inspiring DC original, Annie Lou Bayly Berman, her love of music and libraries and Washington, DC -- and to her talent for tossing together all of the above to see what magic might be created. All proceeds from the album and the music festival that occurred on Feb. 24, 2017, at the iconic Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library (where many of the album's songs were recorded), will support programs and services at the DC Public Library's 26 locations citywide.
