wonders never cease Wednesday, May 4, 2011

WEDNESDAY, May 4th, 2011 may the fourth, be with you…

chewie Ah, May 4th. Time to let your geek flag fly. Some of you out there may know what we're talking about. Few of you are willing to admit it. May 4th is Star Wars Day. The curiously knowledgeable among you might ask, "But, Proper Topper Weekly Play List, Star Wars wasn't released until May 25th, 1977. Why is May the 4th Star Wars Day?" To you we say: if you know so much about Star Wars, young Jedi, how did you not realize... May the Fourth be with you. Alright, it's dripping with corn and downright silly, but we have a six-year-old among us and Star Wars is at the peak of its popularity at that age. Suffer through this play list with us and we promise it will be replaced next Wednesday:

1. Star Wars Theme - John Williams
The sweeping orchestral opening that ingrained itself into the minds of a generation. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

2. Crazy - Gnarls Barkley
Cee Lo Green enters the stage in a Darth Vader getup while the band sports various Star Wars costumes, including Chewbacca on the drums.

3. Darth Vader Rap - Eminem
Marshall Mathers and friends try to convince Luke to switch over to the dark side by the power of repetition.

4. Tatooine - Jeremy Messersmith
We really aren't sure what to say about this song. We're tempted to be snarky but find ourselves oddly out of ammunition. Have we crossed the threshold?

5. Han Solo PI - Themes
Nice idea, and if we were network executives, we would be green lighting this project We like TC and Rick, but they're no Chewbacca and Lando.

6. An Innocent Man - Billy Joel
Someone works this hard to televise this homage to Luke Skywalker, it would be Vaderlike to ignore it.

7. Chewbacca - Supernova
What a Wookie.

8. Holding Out For a Hero - Jennifer Saunders
Is there a feel good flick that wouldn't be improved by this song?

9. Han Solo - MC Chris
PG-13 MC Chris really brings the 7th grade together in their feelings about the lovable rascal of Star Wars.

10. Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme) - John Williams via Volkswagen
We hope this is the first and last Super Bowl commercial we ever rebroadcast, but it is on point and mighty cute.

11. Star Wars Meets the Muppet Show
As often as possible, we close with Muppets. This week is no exception. May the Fourth Be With You!
