songs for hats and crafts.

We're getting everything in order for tomorrow night's event, so we threw together a quick list for your listening pleasure {inspired by said event}. True, the crafts mentioned in those songs are more of the space-variety than the arts-and-, but there is a surprising dearth of songs about folding paper, gluing beads, cutting tissue paper, etc. Go figure.

1. You Can Leave Your Hat On - Joe Cocker
An iconic song for Randy Newman, made ever more popular when Joe Cocker contributed a cover to the 91/2 Weeks soundtrack. Ah, the days when Mickey Rourke still looked like a person...

2. Top Hat Bar and Grill - Jim Croce
You never need a top hat at a place like this.

3. After the Moment - Craft Spells
This tune has nothing to do with crafts, aside from the witchy-related band name, but it's so. pretty. A great song for a rainy night.

4. Passing the Hat - Cold War Kids
A song about stealing collection money to sail the open seas. {But it mentions a hat!}

5. Craft Nine - Plaid
This atmospheric instrumental piece is about a space craft, but we can certainly imagine crafting something while giving it a listen.

6. King's Lead Hat - Brian Eno
The meaning of the lyrics: your guess is as good as ours.

7. In My Craft or Sullen Art - Dylan Thomas
Not a song, technically, but isn't it amazing to hear Thomas recite his own work? {And this usage of craft comes closest to what we'll be doing tomorrow night.}

8. Alpha Sun Hat - The Mountain Goats
There's nothing about a hat in the lyrics, only the title, but we like The Mountain Goats. So there.

9. Top Hat, White Tie and Tails - The Boswell Sisters
A classic tune to send you away dancing.
