WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9th, 2010nine songs for nine great years.

[caption id="attachment_4452" align="alignleft" width="400" caption="click to listen"]06-09-01[/caption] Alright, please allow us to set the stage for this week's play list. It's a perfect day on the 9th of June in 2001, the kind of early summer day that makes it seem like nature is humming around you. A beautiful bride nervously arranges the last details of her wedding taking place later that day, then calls her shops to check in and thank the employees who had to work that day and therefore miss the nuptials and accompanying festivities. The goofy groom is putting the finishing touches on the music for the ceremony and festivities while his best man/brother completes the assembly of the hundred some hand-crafted cd cases to go with the cds for all the guests. The guests scratch their heads as they head to the wedding, wondering how the groom ever managed to trick the bride into accepting his proposal. This mystery remains unsolved, but the wedding goes smoothly and the happy couple and their loved ones celebrate until the last of them are exhausted. By day's end, the Proper Topper family is officially one member larger and the future blog has a play list contributor, the luckiest guy in the nation's capital. For those of you who missed it, we're sorry that you weren't there with us to enjoy that glorious day, but we can hope to make it up to you by sharing some of the music that we enjoyed:

1. I Was Brought To My Senses - Sting
"You belong to me, I know it's true, it's written in a sky as blue, as blue as your eyes... And we'd be like the moon and sun, and when our courtly dance had run its course across the sky then together we would lie. And out of the confusion, where the river meets the sea, something new would arrive. Something better would arrive."

2. You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You - Dean Martin
"You may be king, you may possess the world and it's gold, but gold won't bring you happiness when you're growing old."

3. Nobody Knows Me - Lyle Lovett
"And I like cream in my coffee, and I like to sleep late on Sunday, and nobody knows me like my baby. And I like eggs over easy, with flour tortillas, and nobody knows me like my baby."

4. Blue Skies - Eva Cassidy
"Never saw the sun shining so bright, never saw things going so right. Noticing the days hurrying by, when you're in love, my how they fly. Blue days, all of them gone, nothing but blue skies from now on."

5. The Book of Love - The Magnetic Fields
"The book of love has music in it, in fact that's where music comes from. Some of it is just transcendental, some of it is just really dumb. But I love it when you sing to me, and you can sing me anything."

6. I Loves You Porgy - Nina Simone
"If you can keep me, I wanna stay here with you forever, and I'll be glad."

7. In My Life - The Beatles
"But of all these friends and lovers, there is no one compares with you. And these memories lose their meaning when I think of love as something new. Though I know I'll never lose affection for people and things that went before, I know I'll often stop and think about them. In my life, I love you more."

8. If I Had $1,000,000 - Barenaked Ladies
"And if I had a million dollars, I'd buy you some art (A Picasso or a Garfunkel). If I had a million dollars, I'd buy you a monkey (haven't you always wanted a monkey?) If I had a million dollars, I’d buy your love."

9. Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton
"We go to a party, and everyone turns to see this beautiful lady that's walking around with me. And then she asks me 'Do you feel alright?' and I say 'Yes, I feel wonderful tonight.'"
