One, One, One, One, Two…

This is not the first time we've revealed ourselves to be a bit nutty for numbers in a calendar date. We missed the chance to post on 11/11/11 so we're taking advantage of today's cool date. A word of warning, loyal readers: 12/12/12 falls on a play list Wednesday this year so be prepared to hear some of these songs again in December. Here are twelve songs for 1/11/12:

1. One By One - Billy Bragg and Wilco
Bragg and Wilco cover Woody Guthrie.

2. Eleven - Thao + Mirah
Alt-rock all-stars team up on last year's Thao + Mirah.

3. Twelve Gates to the City - These United States
Play list favorites give a superb rendition of this old southern spiritual.

4. One - Harry Nilsson
Nilsson and friends perform his oft-covered original song.

5. Eleven Plus Eleven - Nine Below Zero
This song was performed on the debut episode of the 80's cult classic TV show The Young Ones.

6. Twelve - La Dispute
A 2009 release from the Grand Rapids quintet.

7. One - Hot Heavy & Bad
The first single from Atlanta fixture Joi Gilliam's latest project.

8. By Eleven - Alejandro Escovedo and David Pulkingham
A pretty track from the debut album of the Texas legend.

9. Rainy Day Women No. 12 & 35 - Bob Dylan
The opening track from Dylan's seminal 1966 album, Blonde On Blonde.

10. Darling One - Susanna Hoffs
Former Bangle Hoffs goes a little folky on her second solo effort.

11. Mornings Eleven - The Magic Numbers
The first track from the first album of this critically acclaimed pair of brother/sister duos from Greenford, UK.

12. There May Be Ten or Twelve - AC Newman
The first track on the second solo release from The New Pornographers frontman.
