THURSDAY, March 10th, 2011you say “umbrella,” and i say “bumbershoot.”

Yes, "bumbershoot" is a legitimate term for the everyday umbrella. As is "gamp," "brolley," "canopy," "parapluie," and "sunshade." The brolley has been around since the ancient Greeks and Romans and Egyptians pranced about putting on plays and building pyramids (practically the BEGINNING OF TIME). This brief etymology, along with the photo study below, are brought to you by this rainy day (and the related longing for something interesting to do.)
