MONDAY, MAY 3rd, 2010what a kitty.
Welcomed with "Hi, I'm Kitty, I'm so glad to meet you ... won't you support the DC Public Library?," the guests who turned out Saturday succumbed one after the next to Kitty Kelley's charms. They sipped ice-cold champage (it was 160 degrees in the shade, and they weren't in the shade), nibbled kitty-shaped ginger cookies & waited for a chance to chat with the controversial author. She talked about her three+ years of research and how hard it was to get anyone to talk about the queen of daytime. She teased. She dished. She flirted. She listened to a writer from a former Oprah-produced show who happened to see the *sign* and rushed in to meet her, saying "it's all true!!!" She kissed my friend Annie Lou's baby Teddy a zillion many times. And we raised a bunch of money for the Library. (Our friend Carol Joynt suggested that it would be interesting if Oprah's BFF Gayle King, in town for the weekend and staying with friends in Georgetown, stopped by the shop. Yes, it would have been. But, no, she didn't. Yet.)
The generous author signed a bunch of extra books, so you still have a chance to buy the juicy read and know that 100% of the purchase price (and any additional donation!) goes to DCPL, to be doubled by an anonymous donor's matching grant.
Speaking of the *sign*, our friend Marianne of designMind put together Da Bomb of a sign for us, with absolutely no lead time. It drew in the crowds. She is the best.
